There's something gratifying about having a traditional wooden nightstand, isn't there? These nightstands are incredibly versatile and work with virtually every type of contemporary home. Light-stained wood can work well with most sheet colors, giving the house a sunny and clean look.

The weathering aspect of the wood stain is what makes it work well in terms of atmosphere. It's a homey vibe! The thing that makes this awesome is the versatility. For example, if you've been looking for a wooden accent for a blue and grey bedroom, this is it. Choosing a nightstand with drawers is just icing on the cake; it adds functionality!

Do you love the idea of streamlined, single-color home furniture? If you're a fan of modern decoration, then you probably dig this look. Here, the nightstand veers away from the more traditional look of a wood-stained furniture piece. Rather than opt for wood, they went for a fully painted nightstand done up in a single color.

This choice of nightstand is good for fans of industrial looks, modern looks, or otherwise edgy looks. The boldness of a strong, uniform color says it all.

3. Baskets Away

This designer came up with a cool way to add a little extra storage and pizzazz to their nightstand. Rather than just stick to a circular nightstand as most would, this designer added a wooden basket (or bowl?) at the bottom of the nightstand. By matching the basket's color to the nightstand, they made it work.

People searching for a quick and easy way to improve their storage without cramping their style might want to give this decoration idea a whirl. It might save you some money, not to mention space.

4. Mismatched Glam

Imagine this scenario: you're at a chic thrift shop and find a single nightstand that you adore. It's the perfect color and shape. Problem? You need two. What should you do? If you are in the same school of thought as the designer here, it's all gravy. They decided to go for an asymmetric solution featuring two slightly mismatched nightstands.

The reason this works is simple: while they are mismatched, they still are color-coordinated and have similar styles. The result is a look that remains put-together even though it's not matched. This story's moral is simple: don't let a lack of matching rain on your parade.

5. Cargo Crates

Not everyone has an endless supply of money to finish off a bedroom, but as it turns out, you might not need it. This pair of chic nightstands aren't quite like most others you'd find for sale. It's pretty clear that they were created by gluing together a pair of cargo crates---similar to the ones that you might have seen carrying oranges or tangerines in your grocery store.

As long as you find a source of cheap wooden crates, you might be able to upcycle them into a similarly awesome manner. While you might need to figure out whether you prefer staining versus painting, it's still an excellent way to spend a weekend.

6. Get Benched

Nightstands have a certain connotation. They're expected to be petite cabinets that have drawers. However, they don't have to be that if you don't want them to be. One of the newer trends that started to kick off is using benches as nightstands. Sometimes, like in the photo above, they are low to the floor. Other times, it's clear that they double as a standard bench.

These are an excellent pick for people who love a little extra space around their beds, not to mention fans of Scandinavian style. (The minimalist aspect of this look sells it.)

7. Stool Samples

While the titular pun might be crappy, this idea sure isn't! If you are low on space but still want to have a stylish nightstand, the easiest and most convenient way to do it is to buy a pair of low-set stools. Stools are small enough to wedge in the tightest of spaces and can be found at the perfect height for a typical bedside table.

Versatile and chic, this is a great look for people who want a little antique vibe to their home. Or, you know, people who want to add an industrial twist to their home. Regardless of the look you're accomplishing; it'll work. It's just that awesome a choice.

8. Block It

There's something incredibly chic about furniture that is made of poured concrete or acrylic. The fact that you can get a table, stool, or nightstand in a perfect cylindrical shape or a towering rectangular prism is incredible in its own right. When you add that to a paint job that involves a single solid color, you end up with a strikingly modern look like the ones in the photo here.

These nightstands offer a bold look that still conserves space. Since you can paint it to suit your room's needs, it's a shoo-in for any color scheme.

9. Lumberjack's Choice

Looking for a rustic way to get the nightstand that you want? If you are short on space but big on wooden accents, a treated log can act as a high quality, super-woodsy nightstand. Lumberjacks would be proud of this pick, if only for the natural aesthetic and the quasi-upcycling that it offers to a home.

It's important to remember that you can't just saw wood and place it in your home. If you choose this route, you need to make sure that the wood is sanded down and use a finish or a stain to keep it safe. Otherwise, you'll just have a rotten log in your home.

10. It Floats!

This nightstand is absolutely wild. At first glance, it looks like a traditional nightstand. It has a drawer; it's at the same height as the bed. No biggie, right? Well, look below! This nightstand was installed into the wall, eliminating the need for nightstand legs. To save space and add a little extra twist on a classic look, they turned a traditional concept into a floating nightstand.

While this nightstand might not be a good idea for a place that you're renting out, homeowners would get a kick out of this. It's undeniably one of the coolest things we've seen in a minute.

11. Hanging Out

Speaking of floating nightstands, this is another way that you can make your nightstand defy gravity. In this pic, we see that a designer took a more creative turn on a nightstand concept. Rather than get a table with a drawer, this person decided to hang a basket from the ceiling, making it drop down to the side of the bed.

Admittedly, this is a pretty neat way to ensure that you have everything within arm's reach. However, this might not be the best option for people who tend to store hefty items in their nightstands. Moreover, we're willing to bet that this isn't too good for holding alarm clocks. Still, this could work for the right person.
