Removing The Drawer

If you've owned this dressing table for a while, you might have noticed that the drawer doesn't extend all the way out. This is to help prevent the dressing table from tipping over. Thus, figuring out how to remove the drawer can certainly be confusing.

Focused details on a drawer

On many types of tables or dressers with drawers, you can just pull them out. Unfortunately, this dressing table requires a little more work. The steps below are essentially the reverse of how you put the dressing table together. Additionally, if you are wondering how to make the drawer extend farther, there are also many guides and videos online that will show you how to hack the drawer.

Step 1: Open The Drawer

This step is as simple as it sounds. Open the drawer as far as it will go. Take a look underneath. You should be able to see where the drawer is attached to the bracket.

Step 2: Remove The Screws

Once the drawer is extended, you should be able to see how it's attached to the bracket. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws underneath. There should be two screws total, one on either side.

Step 3: Remove The Drawer

After you've removed the screws connecting the bracket to the drawer, you should be able to pull the drawer away from the bracket. Next, grab the drawer on either side and pull the drawer towards you and up.

If it doesn't come away easily, you may need to reach to the back of the drawer and push out the metal clip connecting it to the bracket at the back. Take a look at the assembly instructions to your dresser so you can reference it for pictures of how the drawer is held in place.

Will IKEA Replace Broken Parts?

It can be really frustrating when you receive an item of furniture and some of the parts are broken or damaged, or maybe you accidentally damaged them yourself. Either way, you're left wondering whether your product is fixable or whether you're just out of luck.

Whether IKEA replaces broken parts depends on how the part was broken. If the fault lies with IKEA, they will replace the part for you. If you broke the part yourself, some conditions might apply when it comes to a replacement piece, so you should contact IKEA's customer service department to ask about their policy.

IKEA will replace broken or faulty parts for you if the fault lies with them, and it can often be done in-store. Take the broken or faulty part with your receipt to your local IKEA store. IKEA stores aren't located in many cities, so if your local store is not so local, you can also call their customer service line. They may be able to ship you the replacement part, saving you a trip.

If the broken piece is a fitting and has the 6-digit code located in the assembly directions, you can order a replacement piece online. If you no longer own the instruction manual, IKEA also lists copies of their product's assembly guides on their website. It can be located under the product's description. If you are still unable to find the 6-digit code, stop by the recovery section in your local IKEA store.

Are IKEA Drawers Soft Close?

Soft-close drawers are drawers that close softly and do not make a loud noise when shut. You may be wondering if this is a feature of IKEA drawers. Unfortunately, not all IKEA drawers are soft close, but IKEA does sell a soft-close add-on that you can install yourself.

How Can You Make IKEA Furniture Stronger?

IKEA is known for its affordability, but not for its furniture's sturdiness. Fortunately, there are ways you can make IKEA furniture stronger.  There are a few methods you can try, and while it's usually easier to do these while you're assembling your furniture, you can also try some of them on furniture that is already assembled.

Wood Screws

Many IKEA products come with wood screws. One way to make your furniture stronger is by replacing these screws with a slightly longer version of the same screw. Just make sure that the screw isn't too long, or it'll pierce through the other side of the furniture.

You can also add additional screws to locations where pieces of the furniture connect. Just be sure to mark out and drill starter holes before inserting the screws.

Also, over time, screws can become loose or worn, so be sure to regularly check the screws on your furniture to see if they need tightening. This will not only strengthen your furniture, but it can also make it last longer by removing stress from other parts.

Wood Glue

If you don't plan to disassemble your IKEA furniture anytime soon, you can take a more permanent approach to strengthen it.

Wood glue can be applied to any joints where the wood fits together, or you can apply it to the screw holes. It's best to do this as you assemble your product, but you could always disassemble a piece you already have and apply it then. Be careful not to add too much, or it could leave the joints looking messy.

Steel Braces

You can also reinforce IKEA furniture by adding steel braces. Steel braces can be applied to the underside or corners of your furniture, and as a bonus, they are relatively inexpensive. You can often find sets of braces that also come with the required screws.
