If you're on the fence about whether to purchase a cordless vacuum, you may be considering whether there are any benefits regarding its size and weight. In order to consider any benefits, you must first actually know the weight of the cordless vacuum. So, what is it? Well, we've done the research and have an answer for you!
Depending on which model you choose, a Dyson Cordless vacuum will weigh between 5lbs and 10lbs. Almost all of the vacuums are approximately 4ft long and 10 inches wide. The exception to this is the newest model that has a width of 12.5 inches.
Now you know the approximate weight you can expect your Dyson Cordless Vacuum to be, but keep reading as we elaborate on this further. We'll discuss different makes and models and how much each one will weigh. We'll include some other dimensions as well. Additionally, we will answer some other questions you might have about a Dyson vacuum.
Dyson Cordless Vacuum Weight And Other Dimensions By Model
There are several types of models of the Dyson Cordless Vacuum. The following models are listed from oldest to most recent and all have different specifications and abilities. Let's discuss each one and what weight, height, and bin size you can expect them to be.
Dyson V7
The Dyson V7 vacuum is one of the first cordless stick vacuums that Dyson released that they still sell today. (Note: There are some earlier cordless models no longer listed on the Dyson site. However, you may be able to purchase them from third-party sites.)
The V7 model weighs only 5.3lbs, has a length of 49 inches, and has a bin volume of 0.14 gallons. It has one of the shortest run times of 30 minutes on a low mode.

Dyson V8 Absolute or Dyson V8 Animal
Whether you choose the V8 Absolute or the V8 Animal, both will run approximately 40 minutes. The V8 Absolute is 5.75lbs and has a length of 49 inches, whereas the V8 Animal, despite also being 49 inches, weighs slightly less at 5.63lbs. Both of these models have a bin volume of 0.14 gallons.

Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute or Animal
You aren't crazy—there isn't a V9 model of the vacuum. The V9 motor was in fact designed for a hairdryer, so if you're wondering why we jumped to V10, that's why!
Dyson V10 cordless vacuum cleaners also come in an Absolute or Animal version. Unlike their V8 counterparts, both the V10 Absolute and V8 Animal weigh the same at 5.9lbs. They are slightly longer than the V8 model at 49.2 inches and have a bin volume of 0.2 gallons.

Dyson V11 Animal
The Dyson V11 Animal cordless vacuum weighs 6.68lb which is a substantial increase from the two previous models. It's also longer at a length of 49.65 inches. The extra weight didn't come from an increase in bin volume though, as, like the V10 models, it has a bin capacity of 0.20 gallons.

Dyson V15 Detect or V15 Detect+
Dyson describes the V15 model as the most powerful cordless vacuum it sells. Despite this, both V15 models are only slightly heavier than the V11 model at 6.8lbs and still have a bin size of 0.2 gallons. They are both 49.6 inches long, making them a hair shorter than the previous model. It can also run for up to 60 minutes.

Dyson Outsize or Dyson Outsize Absolute+
The Dyson Outsize model's name sort of speaks for itself. It outsizes the previous models by quite a bit and is the longest and heaviest cordless model Dyson has. Both Outsize models weigh a hefty 7.9lbs and are 50 inches in length. This model also comes with the largest bin yet. The bin is able to hold 0.50 gallons. It also has the largest run time of 120 minutes.

How big is the Dyson outsize head?
One of the other perks of the Outsize model is its bigger vacuum head. It has a full-size cleaner head that measures 25% longer than the previous V15 model. A full-size cleaner head measures 12.5 inches across whereas the previous models are all just shy of 10 inches long.
Dyson Omni-Glide
The Dyson Omni-Glide is a cordless vacuum made specifically for hardwood floors. It's much lighter than the regular cordless vacuum cleaners and can also be transformed into a handheld cleaner. With its lightweight of 4.18 lbs, it also comes with the smallest bin capacity of 0.05 gallons.
What is Dyson's cordless vacuum bin capacity?
The Dyson cordless vacuum line has a bin capacity ranging from 0.14 gallons for its earliest models up to a 0.5-gallon capacity for its newer models.
The hardwood floor cordless vacuum has a bin capacity of 0.05 gallons. For the bin capacity of each of the other models, scroll back through the previously listed models on this page.
What size are Dyson attachments?
Dyson sells a number of attachments for its vacuums and other devices. That being said, some Dyson models have an attachment width of 1" while others have a width of 1.25". The Dyson attachments range in size and function, but most of them are compatible across multiple models. Here are some examples:
Dyson Extension Hose
An extension hose attachment is compatible with Dyson V15 Detect, Outsize, V11, Cyclone V10, V8, and V7 vacuums. It adds 24 cm (or 9.45 inches) of extra length.
Dyson Crevice Tool
Also compatible with most of the cordless models, the crevice tool can fit in gaps as small as 0.5 inches wide and 7 inches long.
Dyson Up-Top Adapter
This adapter connects to the Dyson vacuum and locks at different angles to allow you to reach normally hard-to-reach places. It can bend up to 130 degrees.
How tall is a Dyson stick vacuum?
Dyson stick vacuums range in height from 49 inches to 50 inches. As you can see, the height changes very little between models. Again, you can find each model's exact height listed in the model description previously listed.
For reference and comparison, Samsung stick vacuums are around 44 to 45 inches long, so for you taller folks, Dyson might be the way to go.
How big is the Dyson docking station?
Dyson cordless vacuums need to be charged and typically come with a docking station that allows you to recharge and store your vacuum.
The docking station can be attached to your wall, and because of this, you may be wondering how big it is. The size of the docking station for a V10 model is 8.9 inches long and approximately 4 inches wide. Other docking stations may be as big as 12 inches long.
How do you attach a Dyson dock to the wall?
Once you've figured out where to store your Dyson, you need to know how to attach it to the wall. Before you begin, you will need wall fixings. These are not included with your Dyson docking station.
The wall fixings will need to be spaced 5 inches apart for the mount to be put in place successfully. The docking station will need to be installed at least 120 cm from the ground so the vacuum does not touch the floor when it's in place.
Check out this YouTube tutorial for a visual guide on how to attach your dock to the wall. This guide covers the general installation of the dock:
Do I have to attach my Dyson dock to the wall?
If you're renting or just not excited about drilling holes into your wall, you have some other options. You do not need to mount your Dyson dock to the wall. The charger can be plugged into an outlet and the vacuum can be charged this way. The dock is just to make storage neater and easier.
Another option to consider is a free-standing dock. Dyson sells a product for this called a Floor Dok. The Floor Dok is compatible with the newer models of cordless vacuum cleaners including the V11, V15, and outsize.
