Can You Use A Bissell Crosswave On Vinyl Or Laminate Flooring?

Laminate flooring can be tricky. The wrong cleaner can leave them dull or coated in residue or too much water can seep into the flooring and ruin it.

Other materials, like vinyl, aren't quite as sensitive. But they can still be a pain to clean, and who wants to lug a mop and water bucket all over the house?

New multi-purpose tools are springing up, ensuring an easier, efficient clean on a variety of surfaces.

We've checked with the experts at Bissell to find out whether their new product, the popular Bissell Crosswave, can be used on vinyl and laminate floors.

The Bissell Crosswave is a cleaning tool that works on a variety of surfaces. It's a wet-dry cleaner that can both vacuum and wash the floor. It works for carpet, area rugs, vinyl (sheet and plank), laminate, tile, and even sealed hardwood floors. It covers a 12-inch path, with a special control that allows you to use as much or little cleaning solution as you need. This keeps you from ruining your floor with too much liquid. Further, you can turn off the liquid clean altogether, keeping your floors dry when you just want the vacuum feature.
Keep reading to learn more about just how the Bissell Crosswave works and what makes it different than other floor cleaners. This article will also cover the best cleaning products for vinyl and laminate floors. Finally, we'll cover whether you can skip the water - the Crosswave can eliminate mopping, but does it replace vacuuming too?

How Does The Bissell Crosswave Work?

The Bissell Crosswave has two tanks - one for the cleaning solution and one for the dirty water. This means that you'll get a better clean than an old-fashioned mop can offer. Since the dirty water is removed permanently, you won't have to worry about frequently emptying and cleaning a mop bucket to avoid pushing dirty water around the floor.

It has a simple control system on the handle. There's one button for hard floor cleaning and one for carpeting. There's also a spray trigger button that releases the cleaning solution on-demand.

When you aren't using the wet solution, the Crosswave acts like a vacuum. This saves you from having to sweep, then mop. Plus, sweeping tends to release small particles and dust back into the air rather than removing it altogether. Vacuuming with a product like the Crosswave traps this sediment and dust into the tank, getting it out of the environment.

The brush is easy to remove for cleaning after use. It's also light, making it easy to move from room to room to clean a variety of floor surfaces. At only 11.5 pounds, it's very manageable.

What Is The Difference Between Bissell Crosswave and Spinwave?

The main difference between these two cleaners is how they clean. The Spinwave is more for mopping and buffering the floor, with two round brushes that spin in a circle. The Crosswave is similar to a vacuum, with a rolling brush that picks dirt off the floor. Both use a cleaning solution to replace mopping.

Both of these floor cleaners work on a variety of bare floor surfaces - such as tile, vinyl, laminate, linoleum, and sealed hardwood. However, the Crosswave can also be used on carpeted areas, area rugs, floor mats, and more. The Spinwave can't be used on small rugs and mats because it will move anything that isn't secured.

Can I Use Bissell Spinwave On Laminate Floors?

Laminate flooring has become a very popular choice in modern homes. High-quality laminate can look just like wood, and it's easier to keep clean. But it still comes with its own set of obstacles.

For example, anything too rough or abrasive can scratch the surface of the laminate. Don't clean with a lot of water, as it can cause bubbling or warping. You'll need to be careful what products you clean with. The wrong cleaner can leave residue, streaks, or damage the protective surface layer of the laminate. And finally, stains not cleaned promptly can cause damage. That's why it's important to have a convenient, quick, and easy method for cleaning your laminate floors.

If you put off cleaning because you hate the effort of filling and lugging a bucket and mop around the house, the Spinwave or Crosswave might be your ticket out. Bissell guarantees that their multi-surface cleaner formulated for both of these cleaners is safe for laminate floors - and even brings a little shine to the floor.

The Spinwave also offers the ability to control just how much cleaning solution you use. Being able to control how much liquid you use can keep your floors safe from water damage. It can also help you avoid long drying times when you're in a rush.

What Cleaning Products Are Safe For Laminate Floors?

When you're cleaning laminate, you'll want to steer away from oil-based cleaners. Don't use polish or wax, either. These dull the surface of the laminate and can leave behind streaks. Avoid anything abrasive, as well - it can scratch the floor.

If you're using a Bissell Crosswave or Spinwave, be sure to read the manufacturer's instructions. If the product is under warranty, using anything other than the specified cleaners will void the warranty. This is one of their standard recommended cleaners:

However, in general, many flooring experts agree that a diluted vinegar solution is a great cleaner. One cup of vinegar to one gallon of water is all you need and much more affordable than commercial cleaners.

What Cleaners Are Safe For Vinyl Floors?

Vinyl flooring is, overall, a low maintenance choice, which is part of its appeal. You really don't need a fancy cleaner -  a little dish soap and water is sufficient. An alternative is to use the same vinegar solution as above - one cup of vinegar for one gallon of water.

But, again, always follow your products specific instructions. Your flooring may recommend a specific cleaning regimen. Further, if you use one of the Bissell products, you'll void your warranty if you use anything besides their recommended cleaners.

This is one of the cleaners suggested by Bissell, and it also sanitizes to remove 99.9% of common bacteria.

Can Bissell Crosswave Be Used Without Water?

The Crosswave is designed to clean with water. But you can control how much water comes out by switching between the carpet and hard floor settings. If you don't engage the spray button, it will function as a regular dry vacuum.
The Crosswave is actually surprisingly effective as a dry vacuum, with a brush that rotates at 3,000 rpm. Still, it's meant to have the best cleaning and suction when the cleaning solution is used. The spray trigger wets the brush, loosening the dirt in the carpet. Then, as the vacuum sucks up the water, it also removes the dirt. While you can avoid getting the carpet wet by not pushing the spray trigger, it won't have the best results. It's fine if you need to clean up a dry mess here and there, but you won't want to clean your whole carpet this way.

The Bissell Crosswave is safe for a variety of surfaces. This includes tile, sealed wood, laminate, vinyl, and linoleum. It is also safe to use on carpet and area rugs. The Spinwave, while similar, offers a polishing and buffing motion. This means that the Spinwave, while also safe on a variety of surfaces, cannot be used on area rugs or other unsecured surfaces. The Crosswave works as both a mop and a vacuum, making it easy and convenient to clean all of your floors without having to switch back and forth between multiple products and cleaners.
